
Ms. Swinford studied psychology and social work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, where she received both her Bachelor of Arts and her Master’s in Social Work. She has served in the field of family mental health with more than 15 years of clinical experience, and is also a published author of research work in the mental health field.
Ms. Swinford believes in connection and relationship as she journeys through life. She brings this approach to her work, matching techniques to the needs of her clients. She is a certified EMDR therapist through the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). She is also a registered Somatic Experiencing Practitioner.
Ms. Swinford was an adjunct professor at University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, where she taught evidence -based treatment to Masters level students. In addition to her therapy background, Ms. Swinford taught English as a Second Language (ESL) in Greece for grades kindergarten through college. She also trains dogs, and is a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) evaluator.
Ms. Swinford is also the owner of Bloomington’s Know Yoga Know Peace, which is a virtual studio, operating during the Covid crisis with pro bono and donation-based classes. Ms. Swinford feels strongly about giving back to the community during the pandemic, and has adjusted her previously in-person studio to meet the current needs of her students. She brings her somatic training to her yoga classes, when appropriate.
Laura loves being in the woods with her pup Matilda and enjoys the company of her friends and family. She loves when friends, family, and her dog all come together to join her in her yoga practice.
