Academic Accommodations

Learning Disability Evaluations

Spencer Psychology offers specialized evaluations to determine if a learning disability such as dyslexia (reading), dyscalculia (math) or dysgraphia (writing) is the reason a student may be achieving below their expected academic level.

If test scores indicate a learning disability is present, our school psychologist can make recommendations for individualized accommodations with your college or university.

  • Specific formal testing, based on the individualized concerns
  • Interview and history
  • A clear diagnosis

  • Records review of previous diagnosis, or a phone call to a previous provider to verify diagnosis
  • Interview
  • Completion of any required college paperwork (at IU, this is the Autism Spectrum Documentation Form)

  • Fees are self-pay for $650 .

Are there any exclusions?

  • This evaluation is not intended for students who have never been diagnosed, or do not have a history of mental health care. It is not a full psychological evaluation, but an update to existing conditions.
  • We do not evaluate for substance abuse issues, or provide documentation for any addiction concerns.
  • If you have been previously diagnosed with an Adjustment Disorder, this will not meet university requirements for a disabling condition for accommodations.
  • We do not provide evaluations for court purposes, custody disputes, parenting concerns, pending or open child protection cases, anger management, violence or any offender issues.

IU and College Requirements

Our evaluations fulfill the documentation and testing criteria of The Office of Disability Services at Indiana University, and all other major academic institutions in Indiana.

IU requires that you also register with the Office of Disability Services at 812-855-7578 or email iubdss@indiana.edu before they will review your testing results.

School-Age Accommodations

Spencer Psychology has a school psychologist on staff, trained to identify issues that impact learning and school behavior.

Our doctor will identify your child’s strengths and weaknesses, and guide you with designing an individualized academic plan to help your child succeed.

This can include information for the school for IEPs (Individualized Education Plans), 504 plans and other accommodations and special education services.

School-Age Evaluations Include

  • Specific formal testing, based on the individualized concerns
  • Parent interview and history of issues for the child
  • Child interview
  • A clear diagnosis
  • Recommendations for academic accommodations
  • A formal written report

Fees

Cognitive testing batteries are used to determine these diagnoses. Cognitive and educational testing does not meet the requirement for health insurance standards of “medical necessity” and is therefore not covered by insurance.  All fees are out of pocket.

  • A full battery of testing for children and adolescents is $1800.
  • $900 is due at the time of scheduling, and the remainder due at the mid-point of the assessment.
